5 Reasons Why Exuma Is The Ideal Honeymoon Spot

Posted on

When most people think of the Bahamas, they probably think of Nassau or Freeport. However, if you're looking for a unique, romantic, and fun place to visit on your honeymoon, then consider Exuma. This is an area in the Bahamas that is made up of several hundred tiny islands called "cays." Below is a list of some of the reasons why Exuma is a cool place to visit on your honeymoon.

Romantic and Not Crowded

Exuma is not as densely populated or as popular with tourists as the major Bahamas hot spots. There are only about 7 thousand full-time residents of the area spread out over the several hundred islands. This means that you will find plenty of quiet, romantic areas to relax. The area has lots of romantic little hotels and restaurants all with amazing beach views. A cool idea would be to schedule a stay at a few different places, so that you get to see the different cays and don't stay in one hotel for more than one night.

Thrilling Cave Diving Opportunities

While you're in Exuma, you should take advantage of the awesome underwater caves. You can snorkel or scuba dive, either on your own or with a guided tour. There are four major caves in the area. When you're down in the caves and grottos, you will be able to see different fish, including the beautiful angelfish.

Untouched Beaches

If you're planning on laying out tanning, you probably want a quiet and romantic spot, not one that is filled with tons of tourists. It's much better to hear the sound of the ocean than to listen to the revelry of a beach crowded with strangers. Well, Exuma is perfect. The area is famous for its abundance of small, untouched beaches. Because the area is made of up so many little cays, you can take a water taxi and find a beautiful, deserted beach to make your own.

Swim With Dolphins and Pigs and Tan Next To Iguanas

Swimming with the dolphins is a popular excursion in the many areas in the Bahamas, but only Exuma has swimming pigs. At Big Major Cay, wild pigs will swim right out and meet you in the water. They are used to tourists coming to see them, so they are not frightened.

You can also find a beach full of endangered iguana at Allen Cay. The iguanas have become accustomed to tourists who feed them, so they will walk right up to people.

Visit The Private Beaches In A Yacht

If you've always wanted to spend the day on a yacht, then your honeymoon in Exuma is the perfect time. You can charter a yacht and visit some of the small, deserted islands, and also swim and snorkel off of the yacht. Some of the caves mentioned above are located quite a bit offshore, so if you charter a yacht you could use it as a base for your cave diving excursions.
